The Energy Committee was formed to educate the Chamber members and to advocate on energy-related issues and projects in order to promote economic development in Sarnia-Lambton.

Listed below are some of the current issues that the committee will work on in the coming year:

  1. The potential closing of Lambton Generation Station and re-powering beyond 2014 where possible.
  2. Promote new and ongoing projects in Lambton such as:
    1. Bluewater Energy park
    2. Provident expansion
    3. St. Clair twp. Greenhouse project at Terra
    4. And other smaller projects related to FIT
    5. Community Power project
  3. Investigate and learn more about the impacts shale gas will have on industry.
  4. Reduce transmission constraints so that this region is eligible for all programs and services.
  5. Reduce burden of high electricity rates.
  6. Support additional crude supplies for refining locally.
  7. Learn more about the various bio-mass material feed stocks – agricultural and non-agricultural base.
  8. Co-host with Bluewater Power and BSI conservation seminars and promote to membership in partnership with member companies.
  9. Stay current and provide action where necessary as renewable electricity power generation develops in our community. Seek solutions to the challenges they face to promote job growth
