2009 Comedy & Auction
The Laugh Out Loud Comedy & Auction is one of the Chamber’s largest fundraising events. It offers entertainment and an evening of hilarity. On Friday, May 8th 2009 at 6:00 pm the Hiawatha Horse Park and Entertainment Centre will come alive with laughter and bidding. There will be 100 items featured during the live- and silent-auction and 2 renowned comedians will light up the stage for a night you won’t forget. This year’s entertainment, which is being sponsored by OLG, will feature Debra DiGiovanni, a stand-up comedienne. In 2002, she won the Canadian Comedy Award for the Best Stand-up Newcomer in Stand Up. In 2003, NOW magazine named her headline show as the 3rd Best of the Year. She taped her Comedy Now special for CTV in the summer of 2004, and in 2005 was nominated for Best Female Stand up. 2005 was her first appearance in the Just For Laughs Festival where she was invited on a cross-Canada tour opening for Russell Peters. She has appeared in Last Comic Standing, and in 2007 was the host of the Canadian Comedy Awards. Jay Malone will be the other stand-up comedian and has been headlining comedy clubs across North America for the past 6 years. In 2003, he performed in the Homegrown Competition in the Just For Laughs festival taking first place. In 2005, Jay shot his first nationally-televised comedy special, an hour long episode of “Comedy Now”, which was chosen to represent the long standing series as its 100th episode. He was nominated as the “Best Male Standup Comic” category at the 2005 Canadian Comedy Awards. In addition to Standup, Jay is also an accomplished writer and actor now living in Los Angeles.
